Starting Tips

Basics

Starting off is simple enough, follow the ingame guide and be curious when exploring if you have enough supplys left over once completing an objective.

Bleed/Blight

Both yourself and enemys can use bleed/blight skills make sure to always take at least one bandage and antivenom. Starting off it isnt a bad idea to use bleed/blight resist and chance items over damage/crit to protect yourself and make sure your bleed/blight hits.

Currency:

There are 5 different types of currency in Darkest Dungeon:

  • Gold:

  • Busts: Used in Upgrading Abbey and Sanitarium

  • Portraits: Used in Upgrading Tavern and Guild

  • Deeds: Used in Upgrading Blacksmith and Coach

  • Crests: Used in most building upgrades

Dungeon Types

There are three levels of dungeons:

  • Apprentice (lvl 1); Level 0-3 Hero. Gold bounty 3000-6000

  • Veteran (lvl 3); Level 0-4 Hero. Gold bounty 6000-9500

  • Champion (lvl 5); Level 0-6 Hero. Gold bounty 13500

Beware!

Each dungeon has a length, meaning how many squares the dungeon will have. They can be short, medium or long. The amount of provisions you bring depends on the length of the dungeon so check before you embark. You can see provision explained in more depth below.

Firewood is you best friend, use your medium firewood when you are one room away from a boss or nearly finished an objective. For long missions use your first firewood when you have finished 50% of the maps or if you are confident use your first one straight away and buff up

Use your second firewood before one room before the boss room.
